We stayed at Cabanas Maria Del Mar. Beautiful Playa Norte was right outside the hotel. The beach was beautiful - white sand and perfect azure water. Bars and a restaurant were also right outside the hotel on the beach.
The main area of restaurants, bars and shops were within a short walk and every morning and night we walked to town and ate breakfast and dinner. The food was delicious and very affordable.
One day we rented a golf cart and toured the island, ending up at Garrafon Hotel (next to Garrafon National Park) which had a nice snorkeling area with bars which served us drinks while we relaxed near the beach.
Another day we went on a snorkel and cookout adventure with Captain Tony. The snorkeling was fantastic and Tony prepared grilled fish and chicken on Contoy Island (a nature preserve about 1 hour away from Isla).
One day Gary and Laurie went to Chichen Itza and toured the Mayan ruins and a nearby cenote.
