December 14, 2002
Reworked and reorganized the site

Including a little more information about me in preperation for Christmas visitors and visitors looking for this year's Big Bend camping pictures.

December 11, 2001 8pm CST - Everything back to normal
Argh

I switched the web server to the standard port 80 last night.

Sometime this morning RoadRunner decided to start blocking port 80 requests.

I switched the web server back to a non-standard port - all is well now.

Why use a non-standard port? Why would RoadRunner block port 80 requests?

One word...CodeRed...July 2001... ReadMe

Apache Another word...Apache ...not Microsoft IIS

The real question is: Why did they wait until mid-morning to start blocking requests?

December 11, 2001 11am CST - Trouble in Paradise
Trying to get to the Big Bend pictures?

I'm experiencing technical difficulties.

A server running at home handles the Big Bend trip site.
And it appears that server isn't responding. :^(

Please try back tomorrow.

Argh! It has been working fine for over a week. Really!

December 8, 2001 - Home web server IP switch detection/correction finished
Although RoadRunner can switch home IPs every 24 hours, they haven't been.
So, the IP switch handling wasn't very critical.
However, it is now in place. The IP is checked every 10 minutes. If/when it changes the redirect from www.rocknut.com to the home webserver is updated.

December 2, 2001 - Gallery Generator (perl script) complete
Perl script that generates html-based browser for a directory of images completed - 350 pages automatically generated.

Polished up the rest of the site.

All the pics are now available on the web site.

All that's left is to hack together a mechanism that ensures www.rocknut.com always points to my home webserver.

November 29, 2001 - Apache webserver up and serving at home
Win2K installed on spare PC.
Apache installed and serving pages.
Hole poked through firewall. Wanna guess the port number?
FTP server installed and working. (no hole poked for this baby)

ROCKNUT.COM content refined a bit.

Big Bend link @ ROCKNUT.COM redirected to home PC.

November 28, 2001 - Rough Draft of ROCKNUT.COM is UP!
Registered ROCKNUT.COM into the DNSes at my virtual hosting provider.
Made a prototype web site (using AGGIES.ORG styles).
Configured AGGIES.ORG's Apache web server to support the ROCKNUT.COM http requests.
wow, wasn't that easy.

November 27, 2001 - Reserved ROCKNUT.COM
I'm a bit surprised this domain was available. Just about every name I think of these days is taken.

November 26, 2001 - The Plan
Here's the plan for getting those pics on the web.

Reserve a domain.
Make a virtually hosted website at my main site, (AGGIES.ORG)
Put all the pics on a PC at home (since disk space is precious/expensive @ AGGIES.ORG).
Work out a scheme to redirect visitors to PC at home for Big Bend pics.

Thanksgiving 2001
Went to Big Bend with the Austin Sierra Club. Hiked 30+ miles in 3 days. A record for me. Some of the club members can do 30+ miles in an afternoon. Pretty awsome.

I took lots of pictures.

Now I need a place to put them! Better get to work.
